Vida y obra Su padre, afecto a las antiguas costumbres y moralidad romanas y perteneciente al orden ecuestre, encarnaba el conservadurismo característico de ciertas familias patricias, en su caso, la de una rama de la gens Annaea llegada a Córdoba a mediados del s. II a.C. Su madre, Helvia Albina, mujer de firmes convicciones morales y muy unida a sus hijos (Marco A. Novato y Marco A. Mela, además de Lucio), pertenecía, a su vez, a un rico linaje cordobés.
