Mitílidos
Morfología Los mitílidos presentan conchas equivalvas (ambas valvas iguales), generalmente alargadas, de forma variable entre subcircular y estrecha. Su tamaño puede alcanzar hasta 10 cm o más, y el color de la concha varía del negro al azul o pardo. La concha está formada por tres capas: una externa (periostraco), una intermedia prismática de carbonato cálcico y una interna de nácar.
